Hatanaka, standing before Yasaka a prominent shrine at the Gion Festival, is located at the perfect place for visitors to enjoy the sights of Kodaiji, Kiyomizudera, Kenninji, and Chionin buddhist temples: truly a place where the charms of Kyoto are found. Despite of being in a popular part of the city, Hatanaka provides a space where one can immerse oneself in peace and tranquility taking on the theme as a "mountain retreat in the middle of the city" The building serves as an example of a true Japanese architecture in Sukiya style. Our charming guest rooms are all equipped with bath tubs made of Koya-maki(a kind of conifer) allowing you to rest and relax. Another feature is our cuisine. Prepared using traditional techniques and seasonal Kyoto vegetables, one can experience the true art of traditional Kaiseki at the very center of the Kyoto cuisine. We hope guests can savor an elegant Kyoto style meal that is carefully picked and beautifully arranged. Gion Hatanaka’s charm doesn’t end there. Guests are also able to converse with and enjoy the traditional dancing of geisha-in-training, known as maiko, while dining. This is the true Kyoto experience, being entertained by maiko, playing games and tasting good food and drinks, and enjoying good conversation. Feel the harmony the culture offers and unwind yourself in a space filled with friendly hospitality. This unique experience will remain in your heart for a long time. It is our sincere pleasure to entertain each guest with hospitality as it is often said in Kyoto, ”Treasure every meeting, for it will never recur”

We are proud of our large public bath whose tub is made of the highest grade koya-maki(cypress wood) shipped from Kiso area. Our ground water comes from the same source that supplies Yasaka-shrine. Soak in a bath wrapped up in the scent of woods, enjoy the view of a courtyard, relax and wash the stress off from a long drive. (4:00pm~1:00am, 6:00am~10:00am)Read moreClose
