NIPPONIA Sawara Merchant Town Hotel / chiba Kujukuri・Choshi 78

Overview

Sawara, a townscape that harks back to the Edo Period.
A canal district with a history of around 600 years, Sawara still retains the culture of the Edo Period, and the old townscape can be seen along the Ono River and Katori Street.

NIPPONIA Sawara Merchant Town Hotel was set up in a merchant town centering on Ono River.
Taking the traditional Japanese houses dotted around the area, they have kept the old appearances of the buildings while renovating the inside to add modern facilities.
The old Nakamura-ya Store that has seen the town change over the years was transformed in to the Geisho Wing, and houses the front desk and restaurant.

Once you have checked in, walk along the old street to the guestroom wing. There are 4 guestrooms in total, all different from each other. Some were former merchant houses, while other were restaurants in the past.
Experience the history and the endurance of the town and its people.

For dinner, guests will be treated to authentic French cuisine filled with seasonal local flavors.
Enjoy a unique experience here, and immerse yourself in this historical town.

*There are pet-friendly rooms for those traveling with dogs.

As well, the concept of Nipponia is very unique, that the town itself is the hotel. The reason we gave the bath a 2 is because it did not have a cover, nor did it have a the standard Japanese style of automatically heating the water, which meant it lost its heat rather quickly and for each person to get in the bath it had lost some of the temperature making it slightly more than luke warm. We also found that there was a lack of information provided by the staff. When we arrived we were unaware that we would be staying in the separate annex (about a 10 min. walk from the main building, and were told to park the car there and return to get the key. We were traveling with my 85 yr. old mother-in-law and we had to walk back to the main building for check in/out, dinner and breakfast). We also were not recommended/told where to pick up any food stuffs/drinks that we might want being a distance from the main building.

Seigaku Twin 304 Pets Allowed

初めて犬を連れての旅行だったのですが、ドッグランも広々しており、お部屋の備品も充実していてとても楽しく過ごすことができました。

It was my first trip with a dog, but the dog run was spacious and the rooms were well equipped.

I stayed for the 7th anniversary of the wedding anniversary. I enjoyed it with the city of Sahara very relaxedly. thank you very much. It was a wonderful memory. The room was nice and there was no clock or TV, so I could enjoy the time without worrying about time. The dinner breakfast was also highly conscious of local production for local consumption, and I fully enjoyed Sahara's taste. The staff responded wonderfully, and the awareness that this opportunity was the best time ... The room stayed at 401 in the GOKO building. If there was a little dissatisfaction, the key to the shoebox was extremely difficult to insert. I can't find anything else. I knew the bath in advance, but it wasn't a bath, but I was able to feel the atmosphere as much as possible, but I thought the bath was good. I was dissatisfied because I wanted to provide a wonderful time, but I think it was generally wonderful. It was a facility and staff that made me want to help you again. If you give a score, will it look like 4.99999? Thank you for a really wonderful time.

Information

Important Cultural Properties Preservation Area
Merchant Town Sawara

Sawara was originally a farming village in the territory of Katori Shrine, one of Japan's top three imperial Shinto shrines of the time. From around 600 years ago, merchant town and commercial districts began to crop up along Ono River. It developed into a major inland port, as a point where the water transport of Tohoku crossed over with that of Edo (old Tokyo), when Ono River and Tone River were connected under the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Edo Period.
The buildings along the Ono River are now designated as Important Cultural Properties.
Sawara retains the effects of the culture from those times, and their festival that dates back to the Edo Period is registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

NIPPONIA - An experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the rich local culture and history
NIPPONIA takes old Japanese houses around the country and renovates them while retaining their historical features. They transform the buildings into accommodation overflowing with culture and history.
