和田屋 Wadaya

Wadaya / Ishikawa Hakusan 150

Wadaya, built in the in the Edo period during the Keio years.
Standing in the quiet lands of the Hakusan Hiba Shrine for a long 150 years, this has become a beloved 'Gourmet accommodation' in Ishikawa Prefecture.

The first thing you will notice when you arrive at the accommodation is the beautiful garden full of nature and that this is a good traditional house. There is a nostalgic irori hearth. The wild flowers growing everywhere can give busy modern guests relief.

As this building originally was a restaurant, the rooms do not have a bath or toilet, and the corridors built at the beginning of the Showa period are not installed with heating or air conditioning, but you can feel the cool air of this holy land and by getting into the bath using the same cold spring waters as the shrine, you can breathe a sigh of relief as your calm Wadaya evening begins.

Meals use dashi stock made carefully each morning from spring water, kombu seaweed and Bonito, and you can enjoy the food culture of Hakusan by eating food only available in each season: in the spring there are mountain vegetables, in the summer hand caught ayu fish from upstream, in the autumn fallen ayu and maitake mushrooms, in winter Hakusan game.

Above all, no matter the season, on the hearth in each room, ayu fish and rockfish will be grilled in front of you by a chef.

The sound of the flames, the smell of the fish, the conversation with the chef.
With the owner who will never stop loving the local land and the food of the chef, the varieties of Hakusan alcohol using local clean waters, you will bring back memories of things Japanese people have forgotten.

The next morning, we recommend walking the pilgrimage path from Hakusan Hime Jinja (3 minutes walk) to the main hall. You can arrive there in a leisurely thirty minutes.

In the beautiful nature at the foot of Hakusan, enjoy the conversation with the owner and hostess and the chef, and experience a moment of bliss that you can only have here.

It was stay of one night, but we enjoyed good meal, good bath. Also, I felt warm with your concern. A cloth was hung on the telephone and fixtures in the hotel, was it a trick that you would not remember everyday? There was a hearth on the side of the meal, but it would be better if it felt more familiar. A miso soup for breakfast is served from a pot on the hearth, another two grilled dishes are baked besides the grilled fish for dinner, and a pot dish. Kaga food unusual to me? It was very satisfying. The pickles for breakfast, products with seasoning such as boiled in soy sauce, and thick items were arranged, and I also felt that it was good even if there was a sense of unity of taste while enjoying various things. In the bath, smelling was expected to be effective, and the smell of towels and shampoo was natural without any peculiarity. Drink refrigerator in front of long corridor ◎. Why not try cold sake lineup? ! Although I wrote only selfish things, it is an inn that I want to disturb you again. Thank you very much

The food was really delicious. But the tempura was not warm and warm. If it was a cooker auberge, I was disappointed. Nakai, who was in charge, was told about the additional mountain-sauce tempura in a bespoke order, "Don't it look like it could be eaten even if it's this amount?" Mr. Nakai could only say "No". I always eat salty tempura but I ate it with a hot soup because it was warm, and I ate it all at once if it was too cold to eat soon. It is good to eat at the restaurant, but it makes you feel lonely if the two next to each other are caught in the upper rank dishes. In addition, there is a small child next to me, and the sound of squeezing crockery and smothering dishes is anxious (it just looks like it's high-class ones), and it is the meal time that bothered parents Is a pity. The next person in charge, Nakaya, said that when we returned, she said, “I played with my child.” Is that the greeting, or what other words do you use to think of the feelings of the guests who were next to the child? I was wondering. The room was old but it felt like a luxury. However, I was awakened that the next room was louder and talked from about 5 o'clock in the morning. If the room's hearth is also at an angle, I think that something that can be used other than summer (for example, okaki etc.) is considered. I felt sorry that I was told that I could only use winter. In addition, there was a hearth in the lobby lounge, and the water was boiling with an iron bottle. Aren't you using this? I thought that it was a waste.

Our bath uses the same underground waters (cold spring) as the Hakusan Hiba Shrine. Although it is not a large bath, you can relax while looking out at the greenery from the window. Please rest your legs after your bath in the rest space located to the inner part of the area. In the hot season you can enjoy the greenery, but in the winter the trees spread out across the view laden with snow. This is actually the room at Wadaya with the most history, with a view of the Hakusan Hiba Shrine pilgrimage route. There is a piano in the room, and cold drinks according to the season.
