- Tamatsukuri Onsen
Tamatsukuri Onsen was founded by Toshikata Hasegawa in the early Nara period. It is one of the best well-known hot springs mentioned even in The Pillow Book. The founder of the hot spring, Toshikata Hasegawa, lived in Chorakuen for many years and for that reason the history of the Chorakuen is similar to Tamtsukuri Onen’s history. In 1868 Chorakuen was established as a Ryokan. The reason why “Yunosuke’s Inn” became a part of the Inn’s name Chorakuen is that we, the descendants of Yunosuke who was appointed by Matsue Domain as an administrator of the hot spring during the Edo period, have been taking care of Tamatsukuri Onsen since then. One of the Chorakuen’s attractions is a large mixed outdoor spa called 'Ryugu no yu', located in the garden. This outdoor spa was completed in 1909 and is proud to be the largest one in Japan. You can experience relaxing bath in the natural hot spring while enjoying a beautiful view of the garden. If you like one more trip, you can’t miss a circuit style Japanese garden covering an area of 33,000 square meters. Not only that you can see the Imperial Chamber, which is famous in connection with Emperor Showa, but also time spend in a place surrounded with hundreds of kinds of trees and plants brimming with Chorakuen’s hospitality. Plenty of specialties of Sanin region. We offer Izumo’s unique seasonal specialties such as crabs, rosy sea bass, Shimane’s wagyu beef, and freshwater clams. Enjoy these with our local high-quality sake. Hopefully, you will be able to enjoy relaxation at our rooms that will make you feel like you were in some villa or deluxe suit style hideout in mountain. Wouldn’t you try to rediscover precious things you might have lost sight of in daily life at Chorakuen in a place that treasures the traditional Ryokan’s hospitality?
