Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Tobira (literary means “door”) Onsen is located in the altitude of 1,000m, at the upstream of River Susuki that runs through the valley. It is surrounded by rich nature, away from urban hustle and bustle.

The name of Tobira (Door) originated from the myth that the Ameno-Tajikarao (the God of athletic power) took a break in this area on his way while carrying a stone door.

Tobira Onsen is well known as a therapeutic spa that is effective on stomach diseases, insomnia, and depression.

The history of Tobira Onsen is not clearly known but it is said that people started taking bath for therapeutic treatments since early Meiji period. (1868-1912)

As such, it was relatively recent that this hot spring has become well-known.
