Hida Takayama Onsen
A new hot spring to enjoy in “little Kyoto of Hida”

Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Hida-Takayama Onsen gushes out in a basin in the central part of the Japanese Islands, in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. Around the basin, there are mountains in the east and west, as well as rivers and valleys in the south and north. Along the streets of this spa village, the traditional townhouses stand in rows, which give a nostalgic atmosphere. This place has also a lot of historical sites and cultural assets, so it is also called “little Kyoto of Hida” and attracts a lot of tourists. In its vicinity, there are many ruins of Jomon Period, where you can realize that the old culture was blooming here in spite of harsh nature.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Though Hida Takayama is a historic site, this hot spring started to gush out in 1989, so we can say that it is quite new. The water has two different qualities: simple spring and hydrogen carbonate spring, and has effects on neuralgia, muscle pain, arthralgia, skin diseases and so on. As it has also skin-beautifying effect, the skin becomes smoother after bathing in this spa.
