Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

This well-known hot spring has been used by Ainu people for a long time, and is located by the southern shore of Lake Akan, where marimo moss balls, a special natural monument, live naturally. Here, you can enjoy bathing in a rustic atmosphere while admiring magnificent Mt. Akan-Fuji.
This is the best spa village in Eastern Hokkaido with many restaurants and souvenir shops.
Besides this spa village, there is the biggest Ainu village in Hokkaido called Ainu-Kotan, where you can experience the tradition and culture of Ainu people. It must be deeply interesting to enjoy hot springs while learning the wisdom of those who have lived in the northern lands.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

This hot spring was opened in 1901, and is one of the biggest hot springs in Eastern Hokkaido, where about 3400 liters of water per minute gush out of about 14 sources. The spring quality is alkaline simple spring. The water is light yellowish brown, transparent and smooth. After bathing in this water, the skin becomes smoother, so it is called “the water of beauty”.
