Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Hosenji Onsen is located in the valley of Mount Waita in Oita.
It is situated by River Machida, a tributary of River Chikugo, and is becoming popular for its rich nature where many fireflies flying around.

It is also chosen as “The Best 100 hometown of creatures”

One of the activities we recommend you is waterfall sliding at “Ryumon Falls” which is very unique throughout Japan.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

According to a legend, Hosenjo Onsen was found in 972 after a major earthquake. Hot spring started gushing out from the point of ground where Kuuya Shonin (903-973), a priest, poked a wooden stick in 938.

As for hot spring qualities, it is simple spring and chloride spring that are effective on neuralgia, rheumatism, female disorders.

This hot spring guarantees “100% of hot spring water straight from the source” that you can fully enjoy the natural hot spring water at any spa facility.

Despite of the small-scale hot spring town, it offers a free public foot bath spot called “Ishibitsu” which is also a symbol of Hosenji.
