Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Katayamazu Onsen is effective on sensitivity to cold due to its heat-insulating properties such as sodium, calcium, and chloride. It also heals neuralgia, muscle pain, and cuts.

The history of Katayamazu Onsen began in 1653 when Toshiaki Maeda, the lord of Kaga Province, came to Shibayamagata for hawk hunting and discovered this hot spring.

However, due to difficulties in construction, securing hot spring source did not happen until Meiji period (1868 -1912). Bathing in the hot spring in this location became available in 1876 for the first time.
