Ogoto Onsen is located at the foot of Mount Hiei and near Lake Biwa which has been called “The pond of Tendai Yakushi “from ancient times. (Tendai is one of major denomination of Buddhism, Yakushi means the Master of Medicine)

Ogoto Onsen was previously called “Nenbutsu Pond” located in the Hoko Temple.

According to a legend, if you drink spring water of Nenbutsu Pond, you can heal any incurable disease.
