Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Adjuscent to south-eastern Niigata City, Agano City hosts a historical hot spring.

Located at the foot of Gozu Renpo (Five-Head Ridges), Agano is also called ”Gozu Area”. Murasugi Onsen is grouped with Imaita Onsen and Deyu Onsen as "Gozu Onsen Go".

Known as some of the famous radium hot springs in the nation, these three springs were designated by Ministry of the Environment as "National Recreational Hot Spring Area" in 2016.

There are five inns, one of which is open for a day use.
Nearby Hyoko Lake is well-known for the swan migration in winter.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

This simple radioactive spring was opened 700 years ago, which radium content is among the highest in the nation.

It's said to be effective for hardened artery, high blood pressure, and chronic female problems. People tout it as "the Hot Water for a Gift of Baby".

The water is good for drinking and is about 25°C (77°F).
