Bandai Atami Onsen

In the Backroom of Kooriyama, the Legend of Princess Hagi Lives on

Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

In "the Backroom of Kooriyama," the legend of Princess Hagi still lives on. That' where Bandai-Atami Onsen is.

This resort has big hotels and ryokans along Gohyaku River. This resort has an 800 year-old history.

The Gohyaku (meaning 500) River, that runs across the center of Bandai-Atami Onsen, has a legend. Long ago, a princess called Hagi was suffering from an incurable illness, when a god of fire came to tell her to go north east to the 500th river from the capital city and dip in the holy spring there. As she followed the direction, she was cured.

Every August, Princess Hagi Festival takes place in Bandai-Atami Onsen.
