Hawai Onsen

Onsen Resort Floating on the Lovely Lake

Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

At the heart of Tottori Prefecture, Yurihama Town hosts Hawai Onsen on the west shore of Togo Lake. The hot spring resort is on the sandy beach that sticks out to the lake. It feels as if the resort is floating on the water.

Togo Lake, one of the eight best sceneries in Sanin Region, is poetic with fishing boats floating in the morning mist, the sunset that turns the lake in crimson, and the warm steam waving and rising out of the lake. Bathing and watching Togo Lake will fill your heart with rich impressions.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

The hot water springing at the bottom of Togo Lake was found in 1843, and the village people pleaded the Tottori Domain to let them use the hot spring.

A legend of koi fish, that told them about the lake’s hot spring, gave the source spring another name “Koi no Yu (hot water).” Villagers set a boat to haul up the hot water into a barrel – the onsen on the lake. This facility lasted until the late 1800s.

It’s a chloride sulfate spring effective for rheumatism, women’s diseases, arthritis, joint pain and more.
