Gero Onsen

The hot spring located along the Hida river, and is one of the three major hot springs in Japan, called "Hot spring of Beauty".

Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Gero hot spring spreading on the left bank of the middle stream area of the Hida River flowing out from Mt. Norikura is a hot spring resort located in a small basin of relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature.
It is a venerable famous hot spring which was admired as three big hot springs lining up in Arima hot spring and Kusatsu hot spring by Banri Syukun,Zen priest of Kyoto Gozan in the Muromachi period and by Hayashi Razan,Confucian scholar in the Edo period.
On the way head towards the downstream of the Hida river, you can see the cliff, fantastically-shaped rocks, and then you can also enjoy the beauty of the seasonal valley in Nakayama shichiri, such as cherry blossoms in spring, bright green in summer, colored leaves in autumn, and snowy landscape in winter.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

After the sudden depletion of the source discovered in the Heian era in the second year of Bunbu (1265), the source from the Hida River Kawahara described in Shirasagi legend was rediscovered and it became present Gero hot spring.
Fountain quality is an alkaline simple hot spring, it is known as a hot spring of beauty which makes your skin smoothly. You can enjoy free footbaths around the hot spring town, the spa pool at the Hida River Kawahara and three communal baths, and you can choose three hot springs of the inns which is participated in"Hot spring tour(Yumeguri Tegata)".
