Yamanaka Onsen(Kaga Onsen)
Yamanaka Onsen, 1300 years of glorious history

Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Yamanaka Onsen plays a part of Kaga hot spring village where the beautiful Kourogi (Cricket) Bridge, built with all Japanese cypress wood, stands over Kakusenkei Gorge.

The rich history of 1300 years can be sensed through the places of scenic beauty and historic interest, such as Ayatori Bridge which stands out for its unique S-curved design in red-purple colors, Kurotani Bridge which is a solemn stone bridge with beautiful arch-shaped base.

Matsuo Basho, a master of Haiku (Japanese poems of seventeen syllables) and travel writer during Edo period, described Yamanaka Onsen as one of top3 hot springs in his major work “Oku no Hosomichi” (The Narrow Road to the Deep North, one of the major texts of classical Japanese literature). Yamanaka Onsen has still maintained its historical appearance from those old days.

Kikuno-yu is a public bath house where the main hot spring source was found. The bath house is built in solemn Tempyo architecture (style from 8th century, with influences from West Asia), and has been loved as a symbol of Yamanaka Osen.
