Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Asarigawa is a famous hot spring in Otaru, Hokkaido. Driving about 15 min from the heart of the City, you will find six inns and a bathing facility for a day-use along Asari River.

There are also 6 other hot spring accomodation within the City.

Lots of public baths still remain in Otaru. Some of them have been around since Meiji Period (1868 - 1911), seven of which use the natural hot spring. The City is well-known for the warehouse street, herring museum, and markets, but it may be nice to relax in a public bath after a long walk through attractions .

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Asarigawa Onsen and most others in Otaru are chloride or alkaline simple hot springs. They are said to heal arthritis, stiff shoulders, fatigue, and so on.

"Otaru Onsen, Osupa" features the hot water gushing out from 750m (2460 feet) below ground. The rare water contains salt three times of regular chloride springs.
