Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Bessho Onsen is located in Ueda City, Nagano in which many shrines and temples exist including Hokko Kannon Temple (Statue of amulet) and Anraku Temple, the oldest Rinzai Buddhism temple.

It is sometimes called “Kamakura in Shinshu” and has recently become popular as a holy energy spot.

The hot spring town has many small alleys with a retro atmosphere. It is a place for enjoying culture while refreshing both body and mind.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Bessho Onsen is called “The oldest spa in Shinshu” which actually as old as it appeared in “Makura no Soushi” (English title: The Pillow Book, one of three great classical literatures which was recorded during the 990s and early 1000s in Heian period)

It is simple sulfur spring which is effective on neuralgia, rheumatism, muscle pain and female disorders.

There are three public baths within Bessho Onsen that you can enjoy Onsen hopping.

Each public bath equips a drink water fountain from which you can drink spring water.
