Introduction of Hot Springs (Onsen)

Miyanojo Onsen is a hot spring located by Sendai River, whose sources are Kirishima and Kunimi mountain ranges, in Satsuma Town, Satsuma District, Kagoshima Prefecture. This spa area surrounded by hills is full of peaceful atmosphere of Okusatuma, and has 9 inns standing in rows.
This site was once called “Yuda Onsen”, then in 1932, the actual name was adopted. It is known for its production of moso bamboo, and is also called “the village of the Princess Kaguya”, where the legend of the Princess Kaguya still remains even now.

Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Miyanojo Onsen was opened about 180 years ago, in Bunsei Era in the latter part of Edo Period. This hot spring was once called “Yuda Onsen”, then in 1932, the actual name was adopted.
The spring quality is sulfur spring. It is said that the water has effects not only on arthralgia and neuralgia but also on rheumatism and gastrointestinal diseases. In addition, the spring water has also cleansing and skin-beautifying actions thanks to the elevate concentration of alkali ion. For this reason, it has a nickname “hot water of beauty”.
