いろりの宿 芦名 Irori no Yado Ashina

casual Ryokan/Inn
Irori no Yado Ashina / Fukushima Aizu 28

Overview

Incadescent flecks fly upward from the charcoals of the “Irori” (Japanese-style hearth) warming the seasons of Aizu and melting the hearts of all of those who gaze upon them. Our hotel, Irori no Yado Ashina is not only a nostalgic ryokan (a traditional Japanese-style hotel) it is a place to come home to, where time, culture, and people are woven together.

Ashina was built in the beginning of Showa era and has retained it's gentle warmth over the years, throughout the passing of time, and with the arrival of its guests.
Inside you are cradled in inexplicable comfort as you walk bare-foot on the tatami floor surrounded by antiques that usher you back to the by-gone days when they were created.

The most pleasant part of the stay is eating dinner seated around the irori. Ashina is passionate about the town of Aizu and takes great care selecting each and every ingredient that goes into the meals it serves. All dishes are seasonal dishes prepared with such ingredients as organic Aizu rice, fresh char and Aizu chicken.
From it's ingredients to the irori and the lightly smoky fragrance it gives to the dishes, the Ashina Kaiseki ("kaiseki" is a traditional Japanese-style course meal) is a true experience.

Higashiyama onsen is a main attraction at Aizu and Ashina draws 100% of its onsen from those waters. The water is slightly hot yet gentle, releasing the tension from your body and soul. Before you know it, you have immersed yourself in a different time and place.

Forgetting time, connecting to time, experiencing time:
Soaking in its comfort, you find yourself whispering to yourself, “Oh, this is the place for me." Just give in to the feeling. Do nothing at all: just rest and relax. Allow your body and mind to take in the warmth of the people and the irori. It is such pleasureful moments that people have come to love over the years and what they have come to refer to as Ashina time".
